    "No member of Combat Team 370 of the 92nd ("Buffalo") Division has ever forgotten the night of August 23, 1944, when the team prepared to enter combat for the first time. This adventure along the banks of the Arno River was no training exercise: it was war. The regimental combat team consisted of 4,000 men, mostly southern Negroes of modest education and a small complement of college men, including author Ivan J.
